April Mix Side B

In Catching the Big Fish David Lynch talks about music being an abstraction: “You don’t need to put music into words right away—you just listen.” As an abstraction, music is intuition. Music moves without language. When something makes you feel a certain way it’s impossible to put it into words immediately. Sometimes music makes me feel a motion or an emotion or a flash of memory. Initially I wanted to make a playlist of the Beatles’ early stuff, some from the clubs they first played when they were still the Quarrymen. But after a difficult week in which my OCD symptoms were at an all time high I found myself listening to the Beatles songs that make me feel the ways I can’t explain, that feel abstract, like love.

  1. Yer Blues
  2. Long, Long, Long
  3. You Won’t See Me
  4. Girl
  5. I’m Only Sleeping
  6. Dig A Pony
  7. I, Me, Mine
  8. I Need You
  9. Yesterday

This is the first song I have memory of hearing. I was in the back seat of the car and I was around 4 years old and it really made me want to cry.
